How to Set Up and Grow Instagram for Your Business
Switch to a professional account, build a profile that converts and post content people actually want to see.
Switch to a professional account
Open your profile, tap the menu, then go to Settings and activity → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account. Choose Business and pick a category. Menu names can change between app versions.
Complete your profile
Use your logo as the profile photo. Write a bio that says what you do, who it's for and where. Add your website link and contact buttons.
Pick 3–4 content pillars
Decide on the themes you'll post about, such as tips, behind the scenes, customer results (with permission) and offers. This keeps your feed consistent.
Make Reels and use Stories
Short vertical videos (Reels) can reach new people. Use Stories for day-to-day updates, polls and questions with your existing followers.
Hook viewers in the first few seconds and add captions, since many people watch with the sound off.
Post consistently
Choose a schedule you can keep, even 2–3 posts a week. Consistency matters more than volume.
Use hashtags and location tags wisely
Add a few relevant hashtags and tag your location so local customers can find you. Skip huge generic tags.
Engage with your community
Reply to comments and messages quickly, and interact with local businesses and customers' posts.
Check your Insights
Use Insights on your professional account to see which posts get reach, saves and profile visits. Do more of what works.
Avoid buying followers or likes. Fake engagement hurts trust and can get your account restricted.
