Step 1

Choose the right network

Many printers only support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If your router shows separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, pick the 2.4 GHz one. Avoid guest networks.

Step 2

Method 1: Use the control panel

On a printer with a screen, open Settings or Network, or tap the Wi-Fi icon. Choose Wireless Setup Wizard (names vary), pick your network and enter the password.

Step 3

Method 2: Use the WPS button

Press WPS on the router. Within about 2 minutes, press and hold the printer's Wi-Fi button until its light blinks. The light turns solid when connected.

Button names vary. Check your printer's manual for the exact one.

Step 4

Method 3: Use the official app

Most brands offer a free setup app. Download it only from the App Store, Google Play or the manufacturer's website, and follow its steps.

Step 5

Confirm the connection

Print a network configuration or wireless test report from the printer menu. It should show "Connected" and an IP address.

Step 6

Add the printer to your devices

Now add it on Windows, Mac or your phone.

No router? Many printers support Wi-Fi Direct. Connect your device to the printer's own network, using the name and password shown on its screen or report.

All done
